Everyone should be able to access authentic information about their life. When people with experience of care read the information that has been recorded about them and their experiences, they should be able to get a sense of who they were and who they are. It should be an authentic record of their life and personality, and it should highlight their needs, hopes and the support that can help all our children, young people and families thrive.
Our Framing Report Writing Guidance, developed with our colleagues with lived experience, marks an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to changing the narrative around care and care experience and countering stigma and discrimination. Our new guidance goes through each of the Each and Every Child framing recommendations and explains how they can be used in practice to support with this.
This guidance supports: strengths-based writing, trauma-informed approaches, rights-respecting practice, and reducing stigma in care records. It is is designed to encourage reflection on writing style and content and offer some tools that you can use to build a full picture of the child or young person and the love, care, and support that you provide.
